Everything you need to know about telehealth physical therapy, how sessions work, and what to expect.

About Telehealth PT

Telehealth PT is a live, one-on-one physical therapy session conducted over Zoom. It's the same clinical assessment, hands-on guidance, and exercise programming you'd get in person — just delivered through video. I can observe your movement in real time, demonstrate exercises, correct your form, and design a personalized treatment plan, all from wherever you are.

For most conditions, yes. Multiple peer-reviewed studies show that telehealth PT delivers comparable outcomes to in-person visits for conditions including low back pain, knee rehabilitation, shoulder injuries, and chronic pain. In fact, patients often do better with virtual PT because they're more likely to complete their full treatment plan when sessions are convenient and accessible.

Just a few things:

  • A device with a camera (phone, tablet, or laptop)
  • Enough room to stand and move (~6 feet of space)
  • Comfortable clothing you can move in
  • A stable internet connection

That's it. No special equipment required. I'll let you know if any household items (towel, chair, etc.) would be useful for your specific exercises.

Most musculoskeletal conditions respond well to telehealth PT, including:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Knee, hip, and ankle injuries
  • Shoulder and rotator cuff problems
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Chronic pain conditions (fibromyalgia, etc.)
  • Sports injuries and return-to-play
  • Balance and mobility concerns

If you're unsure whether your condition is a good fit, book an initial evaluation and we'll discuss it together.

Licensing & Coverage

The Physical Therapy Compact is an interstate agreement that allows licensed PTs to practice across state lines. As a PT Compact member licensed in Arizona, I can legally provide telehealth services to patients in any of the 37+ participating states. This means you get access to specialized care regardless of where you live, without needing to find a local provider for every condition.

Yes, as long as you're physically located in one of the PT Compact member states during your session. Since everything is virtual, you can keep up with your treatment plan even when you're away from home. Just make sure you have a private space and a stable internet connection.

Pricing & Payment

Cash-based PT puts your recovery first. Here's what it means for you:

  • Longer sessions: 30-60 minutes of focused 1-on-1 time (vs. 15-20 min with insurance)
  • No surprise bills: You know exactly what you'll pay before you book
  • No pre-authorization: Start treatment immediately without waiting for approval
  • Better outcomes: Treatment decisions are based on what you need, not what insurance allows

Many patients find they need fewer cash-based sessions to achieve the same (or better) results compared to insurance-based PT.

I don't bill insurance directly, but I can provide a superbill (detailed receipt) after your session. Many patients submit this to their insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. The amount you get back depends on your specific plan. Check with your insurance provider about out-of-network physical therapy benefits before your first visit if reimbursement is important to you.

Yes! Physical therapy is an eligible expense for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA). You can use your HSA/FSA card to pay directly, or pay with a regular card and submit the receipt for reimbursement from your account.

Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. I understand life happens — if there's an emergency, just reach out and we'll work something out.

Your Sessions

Your Initial Evaluation (60 minutes) includes:

  • Health history review — Your injury, symptoms, prior treatments, and goals
  • Movement assessment — I'll observe how you move and identify restrictions
  • Diagnosis & education — I'll explain what's going on and why
  • Treatment plan — Your personalized roadmap to recovery
  • Home exercises — A starting program you can do immediately

You'll leave the first session with a clear understanding of your condition and exactly what to do next.

It varies by condition and individual. Many patients see significant improvement in 4-6 sessions. Some need fewer, some need more. After your initial evaluation, I'll give you an honest estimate based on your specific situation. There's never any pressure to commit to a set number of sessions — we re-evaluate as we go and adjust based on your progress.

After booking and payment, you'll receive a confirmation email with your Zoom session details. Simply click the link at your scheduled time to join. You don't need a Zoom account — you can join directly from your browser or the Zoom app. I recommend logging in 5 minutes early to test your camera and audio.

In most states, no. Physical therapists have direct access, meaning you can see a PT without a physician referral. Since we're cash-based, there's no insurance requirement for a referral either. If your condition requires medical imaging or further workup, I'll let you know and can coordinate with your physician.
